A Competitive Food and Drink Industry for Growth and Jobs

The food and drink industry is Europe’s largest manufacturing industry, its largest employer and a major player in our economy. Yet, in the current difficult economic climate, there is no time for business as usual; the sector must therefore collectively step up its efforts, particularly in terms of trade and innovation. FoodDrinkEurope's President presenting food & drink industry's ambition for growth & jobs

Europe’s food and drink manufacturers are ready to address the challenges responsibly and to create solutions to increase sustainability, to improve consumer trust and to promote healthier lifestyles.  This must necessarily go hand in hand with growth and job creation.

The aim is to generate a value-added growth of 2.5 to 3.5% per year by 2025. To this end, the following priorities are highlighted for the food and drink industry:

  • Make a wider variety of products accessible to consumers across the EU
  • Expand our global position as leading supplier of value-added products
  • Create more opportunities for research & innovation
  • Become a more attractive employer for all workers
  • Promote fair trading practices

Each of these priorities is supported by a list of recommendations to policy makers.
