Statement on the adoption of the Commission proposal on acrylamide

(Brussels, 21 November 2017) FoodDrinkEurope welcomes today the publication of the European Commission Regulation establishing mitigation measures and benchmark levels for the reduction of the presence of acrylamide in food, which introduces regulation on acrylamide in food, and outlines suitable mitigation measures for enterprises.

Europe’s food and drink industry has worked on the mitigation of acrylamide on a cooperative basis since the discovery of its presence in food in 2002, and this legislation builds upon this work.

FoodDrinkEurope looks forward to the implementation of the Regulation on acrylamide, with the mandatory application of mitigation measures, and its members remain committed to reduce the presence of acrylamide.
